CHAPTER 1 - BASIC

The first chapter of the Handbook on asylum and migration (Handbook „Protecting the Rights of Migrants in the Republic of Serbia“ and the Online Course on asylum and migration) is dedicated to introductory topics that relate to definition of the basic terms in the field of migration and present the legal framework of the international protection system in Europe, with a special emphasis on general aspects of The European Convention on Human Rights and acquis communautaire of the European Union in relation to asylum and migration.

The subject of the analysis of the first chapter is legal framework of Republic of Serbia in the context of implementation of the European Convention as it pertains to asylum and migration – namely, the status of international law in the legal system of Republic of Serbia, the position of foreigners in Serbia and the incorporation of provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) pertaining to asylum in domestic legislation.
